Brian Tamanaha, one of the world's leading researchers on the Rule of Law, will visit the Paul Scholten Centre. Tamanaha is William Gardiner Hammond Professor of Law, Washington University, St. Louis.

June 25: Closed meeting 

On Tuesday June 25, Tamanaha will discuss the Paul Scholten research program on the rule of law at the limits during and work of individual researchers in a closed meeting. 

June 27: Public seminar 

Keynote-speaker is professor Brian Tamanaha. Title of his speech is The Third Pillar of Jurisprudence: Social Legal Theory.

Following the keynote-speech, two workshops will be organized in which recently published dissertations will be discussed (see program below).

Organized in cooperation with The Dutch/Flemish Association for Research on Law and Society.

June 28: Masterclass with PhD students

On Friday June 28, Tamanaha will give a master class for PhD students. The theme is the Rule of Law, broadly conceived. The background reading is his paper “History and Elements of the Rule of Law”.

During the master class, each student will give a short presentation – the one-pagers will be distributed at forehand to all participants –  after which Tamanaha will discuss the issues raised by the student.

This master class is open to the public.
